With tariffs now in place on all European products, Marin officials have voted to tap into the county’s Birkenstock reserves. “As of this morning, we’re injecting tens of thousands of pairs of Arizona Sandals and Boston Clogs into the local economy,” said the county's comptroller. “Ample quantities of leather and suede models will be available, though we urge patience as the ones that are furry on the inside may be in short supply.”
Peacenik roots and a toes-out lifestyle make Marin County the most important market for Birkenstocks outside of Germany, and analysts had predicted that shortages could lead to price gouging and speculative sandal hoarding. Those fears have been eased, for now, along with concerns that Marin’s feet might remain imprisoned in sneakers and boots indefinitely.
